General Information

The Kingdom of Thailand with the capital city in Bangkok is located in Southeast Asia, on the coast of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. The majority of Thailand’s inhabitants are native Thais, there is also a small percentage of Chinese people and other nations. The dominant religion in Thailand is Buddhism.

Thailand is party located on the Indochinese Peninsula and party on the Malay Peninsula, which determines its diversified geographical relief. In its northern and western part, there are Tanen Tong Dan high ranges, which are the extension of the Himalayas. The major part of the country consists of vast lowlands, the main of them is the centrally located Menam Lowland. The Korat Plain, however, comprises approx. one thirds of the total area of the country. It is characterized by a flat surface with low mountain ranges above it. The relief is also diversified due to its numerous lakes, the biggest of which are located in the northern part. The Plain is surrounded from the north and east by the Mekong River, from the south by the Dograk mountains, and from the west by the Pasak River. The river network in Thailand is very dense. The amount of water in the rivers is very changeable and it is a cause of vast floodings, often as a result of intensive rainfalls. The eastern coasts on the Gulf of Thailand are broad and have sandy and straight shores. The best beaches are located here. The western coasts, however, constitute only a narrow strip along the Andaman Sea. In the vicinity of the both shores, there are picturesque islands. On the Malay peninsula, on the eastern shore, there are also sandy beaches but the western shores are cut by numerous river mouths. Many marshy and soppy areas are overgrown by mangrove forests. Further, in the middle of the peninsula, there are over 1,000-meter high granite mountain ranges. Approximately 40% of the total area of Thailand is overgrown by tropical forests abundant in exotic fauna and flora. It is easy to find elephants, tigers and rhinoceros living here.
